What does a General Counsel earn in the UAE in 2026?

A General Counsel in Dubai or Abu Dhabi earns a monthly base of roughly AED 90,000 to 160,000 in 2026. Chief Legal Officer roles sit above that band, priced on the entity rather than a fixed range. There is no personal income tax in the UAE, and the package on top — housing, schooling, flights and bonus — decides the real figure.

What moves the number

The practice area. Compliance, financial-regulatory and data-privacy experience is pricing at a premium in 2026, and company-secretarial and governance seats at listed groups are professionalising fast and paying accordingly.

The employer's category. Larger, regulated and listed entities out-pay smaller and family-owned structures for the same title, and demand concentrates hardest around three-to-five years' experience across the market generally.

The package. Housing runs around AED 25,000 a month, school fees are typically capped near AED 30,000 to 50,000 per child, and flights and bonus sit on top of base. There is no personal income tax, but real costs include a 5% housing fee, mandatory health insurance and 5% VAT — price the whole package, not the headline base.

Dubai versus Riyadh. Broadly comparable at mid levels, with the dirham and riyal sitting close in value. Saudi's premium shows at the senior in-house end and for Saudi-qualified, bilingual lawyers, driven by the Vision 2030 build-out. Both markets are free of personal income tax; UAE VAT is 5% against Saudi Arabia's 15%.
